Six ways to prepare for summer at the office
Winter is well and truly over, spring is in full swing, and summer is just around the corner. We’ve already seen a few bold gladiators stroll into the office wearing shorts and flip flops, and it’s getting more and more common to have to roll the windows down on the car on your way home from work to avoid becoming human toast. Also, the fan epidemic has begun.
So, what can we do to prep for summer at the office?
1) Reserve a fan from the store cupboard. They go pretty quickly, so get in with the Facilities Manager early and enjoy the chill later. Only downside to this is having a fan at the office is like being the kid at high school with the pack of chewing gum: fake friends everywhere.
2) Suggest a company BBQ. We tried this outside the back of the 360 office last year and it went down a treat. One lunchtime on a nice day, drop a few hints to your manager suggesting a BBQ lunch and, with some luck and a lot of charm, you could be throwing away those ham butties and having a burger and hotdog for lunch!
3) Iron your collection of Hawaiian shirts. What would summer at the office be like without lots of summery clothing? If you have dress-down days in the week, get some cargo shorts in and a v neck to ready yourself for some toasty days in the workplace!
4) Get some dope shades. Be it £200 Ray Bans or the £15 knock-offs from Topshop, protect your eyes and look like a boss on your commute to work by whacking on a pair of sunglasses this year.
5) Stock up on water. Summer at the office can mean sitting behind a desk in hot temperatures that can be surprisingly exhausting, and will certainly dehydrate you! If you aren’t fortunate enough to have a water cooler in your workplace, bring a litre or two of water in to keep you going.
6) Start getting out of the office at lunch. With such glorious weather ahead of you, why spend the whole day with a roof over your head? Go for a stroll through the local town centre and get a drink, lounge on the grass at the front of the office, or eat out at a restaurant to get you through a Monday… endless possibilities.
