St Giles Trust is looking for passionate and inspiring Volunteer Peer Mentors & Facilitators to join our SOS+ North Yorkshire team. This unique opportunity enables people with lived experience to use their personal journey to support children and young people affected by criminal exploitation, sexual exploitation, gang involvement, county lines activity, or who are frequently missing from home.
We particularly welcome applications from individuals who have experienced challenges such as involvement with the criminal justice system, homelessness, substance misuse, debt, exploitation, or gang involvement, and who are ready to use those experiences to create positive change for others.
About the Role
Following full training, you will support the delivery of engaging mentoring and educational sessions for young people aged 10 to 25. Topics include:
Weapons awareness
The realities and consequences of prison
Gang involvement
County lines exploitation
Child sexual exploitation
Personal safety and positive decision-making
Sessions are delivered in schools and community settings across North Yorkshire.
What You'll Be Doing
Mentoring children and young people aged 10-25.
Supporting intervention and group work sessions.
Co-facilitating and delivering workshops for young people, parents and professionals.
Acting as a positive role model and trusted source of support.
Following safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection procedures.
Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of your work.
We're Looking For People Who Have
Lived experience of the criminal justice system and/or criminal or sexual exploitation.
An understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable young people.
The ability to build positive, trusting relationships.
Strong communication skills and a non-judgemental approach.
Reliability, commitment and resilience.
The ability and willingness to travel throughout the local area.
Desirable
Previous mentoring, coaching, youth work or support experience.
Experience working with socially excluded young people or adults.
An Award in Education and Training, Mentoring Level 3, or willingness to work towards a qualification.
Knowledge of county lines, exploitation, and related safeguarding concerns.
