Role Description

We currently have a great opportunity for dedicated Support workers for full time (33 hours per week) contracts to work with an individual who has autism, a mild learning disability and complex mental health support needs in the Weston Super Mare area. The individual lives on their own and we provide wrap around support that covers all aspects of their life throughout the day and night.

As a Support Worker you will ensure that the individual feels safe and comfortable in their own home and when going out into the community, be able to support them to develop their independence, and support them with living safely.

To be part of their team, they are looking for the following qualities from a team member:

• Someone who is able to provide a high level of support during the good times and difficult periods our individual faces in their daily life.
• A good understanding of Autism or have experience working with Autistic individuals, and an understanding that being autistic is an important part of who they are.
• A good understanding of Mental Health difficulties, including personality disorders, and how this can have an impact on daily living or have working experience in a mental health setting.
• A good understanding of Positive Behaviour Support and co-regulation strategies.
• Someone who can be a positive advocate for them.
• Consistency – be able to follow a consistent approach that maintains boundaries that keep everyone safe, and be confident to explain why if things are not able to happen and support the individual with understanding this.
• Someone who will support their independence, allowing them to learn from their mistakes and support their growth.
• Someone who works as part of the team who deliver amazing person-centred care.
• Someone who is calm on the difficult days.
• Someone who has a fun and kind personality who will go on adventures with them but also be able to support them at home with fun activities that support their well-being.
• Someone who is genuine and is able to support relationship building. A good listener is important!
• Someone who is able to support healthy lifestyle and be a good cook, especially a Sunday roast.
• Someone who is empathic and resilient, with a commitment to supporting individuals with complex needs without judgement.
• Someone who is able to think outside the box, able to think of solutions to problems the individual may face in a way that meets their needs.
• Someone who is aware of the impact trauma has on the individual and practices trauma informed care.
• Someone who is able to have a laugh and a joke but have set standards and boundaries.

What our individual likes:

• Going to fairgrounds – going on the rides (especially the waltzer) and for staff to enjoy this with her.
• Going to discos and making friends – staff should be willing to have a dance and a good time!
• Listening to jokes – staff should have a good sense of humour.
• Pampering – staff should be able to support with pamper sessions including hair and make up, nails and a leg massage.
• Playing board games, colouring, crafting
• Catching up on favourite tv shows and discussing the dramas with staff
• Feeling understood and listened to – recognising that the individual knows themselves best and supporting in a way that meets their needs safely.
• Being spoken to and treated like an adult.

Schedule:

• Monday to Sunday Days – 08:00 to 20:00
• Monday to Sunday Nights – 20:00 to 08:00
• Overtime

Licence/Certification:

• Autism (preferred)
• Mental Health experience (preferred)
• Driving Licence (preferred)

*Refer a friend bonus is payable at:

• £125 once the referred individual has successfully completed their first shift
• £125 once the referred individual has successfully completed their probation period
