Hub Volunteer - Mondays 10am - 1pm

Are you warm, welcoming and able to put people at ease? We are looking for friendly Hub Volunteers to help create a calm, supportive and inclusive environment for patients, families and carers visiting the Hospice Hub at Heart of Kent Hospice.

About the Hospice Hub

The Hospice Hub is a safe and welcoming space where patients, family members and carers can access specialist care, peer support and professional advice. Sessions are relaxed and flexible, with a range of colleagues and volunteers working together to help people feel listened to, supported and informed.

Role purpose

To support the smooth running of Hospice Hub sessions by offering a friendly welcome, practical assistance and compassionate support to visitors, while working alongside hospice colleagues and other volunteers.

What you’ll do

  • Welcome patients, families and carers as they arrive and help them feel comfortable.
  • Provide simple information about the layout of the Hub and where sessions or activities are taking place.
  • Offer refreshments and practical support where appropriate.
  • Help colleagues prepare rooms, resources and seating before and after sessions.
  • Spend time chatting with visitors, offering a listening ear while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Signpost questions or concerns to the appropriate hospice colleague.
  • Support a safe, tidy and welcoming environment throughout the session.
  • Work respectfully and confidentially as part of the wider hospice team.

What we’re looking for

  • A kind, reliable and approachable person who enjoys meeting people.
  • Good listening and communication skills.
  • Confidence working with people who may be experiencing difficult or emotional circumstances.
  • An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • A calm, respectful and supportive manner.
  • Willingness to follow hospice policies, guidance and training.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and ask for help when needed.

Time commitment

We welcome volunteers who can offer a regular commitment.  We are currently looking for volunteers who can help out at our Monday Hub Sessions from 10am to 1pm - if you can't volunteer on a Monday please exclude from applying.

Training and support

You will receive an induction, role-specific guidance and ongoing support from hospice colleagues. Relevant training will be provided, including confidentiality, safeguarding, boundaries and any other requirements linked to the role.
