Hardware Development Engineer - Graduate Placement/ Early career engineer

Location: Thursley, Surrey (candidates must have the ability to work from and travel to Thursley, GU8 and other sites, as required)

12 month placement

We are looking for a practical early-career engineer with a genuine curiosity for hardware. You will help prototype, upgrade and productionise PurpleSector devices including logger boxes, communications equipment and sensor sets, supporting the complete journey from an initial idea through build, test, installation and maintenance.

This role suits someone who enjoys making, testing and improving physical systems and wants to see their work operating on real client equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prototype and assemble logger boxes, communications devices, sensor sets and supporting hardware
• Upgrade existing systems and help turn successful prototypes into robust, repeatable products
• Select, order and manage components, materials, tools and replacement parts
• Create and maintain practical drawings, wiring diagrams, bills of materials and build records
• Wire, configure and test sensors, power supplies, communications equipment and data-acquisition hardware
• Investigate faults, record test results and implement practical improvements
• Install, commission and maintain hardware at PurpleSector and client sites
• Work closely with instrumentation, software and data teams to ensure complete systems perform as intended

General Requirements:

• Studying towards or recently completed a degree in electronic, electrical, mechatronic, mechanical or systems engineering, or a closely related subject
• A strong practical interest in electronics, sensors, wiring, communications and physical prototyping
• Comfortable using basic workshop and electrical test equipment safely and methodically
• Able to read and create clear drawings, wiring information and build documentation
• Organised and willing to take ownership of ordering, configuration, testing, installation and maintenance tasks
• Flexible to travel to client sites in the UK and Europe; an interest in motorsport is desirable
