About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Facilities Manager to lead the day-to-day delivery of agreed facilities priorities across our UK-wide property portfolio. Working closely with our Head of Estates, you will own defined workstreams, coordinate activity across the estate and build the knowledge needed to maintain effective operational continuity. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with practical leadership, commercial awareness and a commitment to safe, welcoming and sustainable guest environments.

The role will be remote, with regular attendance at our 16 country houses. You will be accountable for agreed facilities responsibilities across buildings, grounds, plant, equipment and compliance processes, working with the Head of Estates to coordinate estate-wide priorities and investment. By developing a strong understanding of the wider portfolio, you will also provide operational continuity when required, while ensuring priorities remain aligned with the needs of our guests, colleagues, members and long-term business plans.

Key responsibilities:

Deliver the facilities strategy across a geographically dispersed portfolio of 16 UK country house hotels, taking direct responsibility for agreed priorities, workstreams and day-to-day implementation in coordination with the Head of Estates.

  • Plan, prioritise and oversee planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, refurbishments and capital projects.
  • Ensure all properties meet statutory, regulatory and company standards for health and safety, fire safety, water hygiene, asbestos management, electrical safety, gas safety and general building compliance.
  • Manage external contractors, consultants and suppliers, ensuring value for money, quality workmanship and safe systems of work.
  • Exercise delegated authority for agreed operational decisions and provide continuity when the Head of Estates is unavailable, escalating significant matters in line with company processes and agreed limits of authority.
  • Work closely with the Head of Estates to maintain shared and accessible knowledge of the portfolio, including property risks, statutory obligations, planned investment, supplier relationships and site-specific priorities, ensuring key information is documented and kept up to date.
  • Assist in preparing budgets, monitoring expenditure and contribute to long-term capital investment planning across the estate.
  • Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, sustainability, accessibility and resilience across the portfolio.
  • Work collaboratively with operations, finance, health and safety, procurement and senior leadership colleagues to deliver high standards across all sites.

Who we are looking for:

You will be a confident facilities or property professional with experience managing multiple sites, ideally within hospitality, leisure, heritage, residential, charity, education or another guest-facing environment. You will be comfortable balancing day-to-day operational demands with longer-term estate planning and investment priorities. You will have the credibility and judgement to own agreed responsibilities, make sound decisions within delegated authority, collaborate effectively with the Head of Estates and maintain operational continuity when required.

  • Proven experience in facilities, property or building management across multiple locations.
  • Strong knowledge of building compliance, health and safety responsibilities and contractor management.
  • Experience planning and delivering maintenance programmes, refurbishments or capital works.
  • Commercial awareness, with the ability to manage budgets, challenge costs and prioritise investment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with site-based teams and senior stakeholders.
  • A practical, organised and solutions-focused approach, with strong attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel regularly across the UK, including occasional overnight stays.
  • Relevant professional qualifications or memberships would be advantageous, such as IOSH, NEBOSH, IWFM, RICS, CIOB or equivalent experience.

What we offer:

  • A varied and influential role with direct ownership of facilities workstreams, exposure to estate-wide decision-making and the opportunity to shape standards across a distinctive UK-wide hospitality estate.
  • The opportunity to work for a purpose-led, member-owned co-operative with a long-standing commitment to the outdoors, community and shared experiences.
  • Hybrid working arrangements, with regular travel to our country houses and central support office as required (located in Borehamwood).
  • The chance to help protect, improve and futureproof a portfolio of much-loved country house hotels.
