About the role

Working in conjunction with the operational team, the Field Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of engineers, technicians, vehicles, plant and equipment, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of operational activities and excellent customer service. You will play a key role in supporting operational performance by carrying out site audits, monitoring safety, quality and productivity standards, and ensuring work is completed within agreed timescales.

As a Field Manager, you will:

Operational Leadership and Service Delivery

• Manage the day-to-day activities of engineers and technicians across the operational area.

• Take responsibility for the effective management of vehicles, plant, equipment and site resources.

• Ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and within agreed timescales.

• Act as the key liaison between office-based teams and field-based operational staff.

• Work closely with the management team to ensure work is appropriately pre-planned and pre-sited where required.

• Monitor workforce productivity and operational performance.

• Identify operational risks and resolve issues before they escalate.

• Provide proactive daily updates and operational reports to the management team.

• Support recruitment activities, including interviewing and onboarding new field-based employees.

• Promote continuous improvement across operational activities and service delivery.

Safety, Compliance and Quality

• Monitor engineer and technician performance against Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards.

• Ensure Company policies, procedures and improvement plans are effectively implemented and followed.

• Promote a positive safety culture and ensure safe working practices are maintained at all times.

• Ensure all incidents, near misses and safety concerns are reported and investigated.

• Conduct site inspections and audits to verify compliance and identify improvement opportunities.

• Monitor safety performance and support corrective actions where necessary.

• Operate in line with Company policies, procedures and strategic objectives.

• Support the delivery of high-quality services that meet contractual and customer expectations.

Customer and Stakeholder Management

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, operational teams, suppliers and stakeholders.

• Act as a key point of contact between clients and operational teams.

• Attend client sites and support client audits where required.

• Ensure excellent customer service is delivered across all operational activities.

• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of works.

• Resolve issues quickly and professionally, ensuring customer satisfaction is maintained.

• Foster collaborative relationships with both existing and prospective clients.

About you

Qualifications and Experience

• Previous experience within the Utilities and/or Drainage Industry.

• Experience working within hard facilities management environments is desirable.

• SSSTS qualification.

• IOSH Managing Safely qualification.

• NRSWA (Street Works) qualification desirable.

• MET certification preferred.

• Full UK Driving Licence.

Knowledge and Skills

• Proven experience in a supervisory or field management role within the Utilities sector, preferably Drainage.

• Strong understanding of Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements.

• Experience working within a customer-focused environment.

• Knowledge of wastewater and drainage network operations.

• Strong people management and team leadership skills.

• Experience conducting return-to-work interviews, investigations and performance management activities.

• IT literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

• Ability to support and encourage employee development and continuous learning.

• Experience building collaborative relationships with clients, suppliers and colleagues.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels of an organisation.

• Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to deliver against deadlines.
