About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Traffic Engineer to join our team.

What You'll Be Doing

• Developing and delivering traffic and highway schemes from inception through to completion.
• Supporting the design and development of options for road safety, walking, cycling and public transport improvements, as well as the safe and efficient movement of people and goods by private vehicle.
• Arranging and coordinating relevant pedestrian, cycling, public transport and traffic surveys, including traffic volumes, speeds, accidents, turning counts, loading activity, desire lines and bus patronage.
• Analysing survey and transport data and presenting findings clearly through maps, graphs, tables and technical reports.
• Producing general arrangement design drawings and associated technical reports.
• Contributing to projects at a variety of stages, including outline, feasibility, preliminary and detailed design.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues, clients and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality project outcomes.

What You'll Bring

• We’re looking for a minimum of 2 years' relevant experience within traffic engineering, highways, transport planning, design or a related discipline.
• A relevant Degree, HND or HNC, preferably in engineering, geography or a related discipline, or equivalent qualifications.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution, such as ILT, ICE, CIHT, or IHE or actively working towards professional membership.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your workload and meet deadlines.
• A sound understanding of highways and traffic engineering techniques and principles, and/or a track record in transport planning, design and delivery.
• The ability to develop and initiate traffic and highway schemes from concept through to completion.
• Experience or expertise in highways-related AutoCAD design.
• Experience in road safety and/or road safety engineering.

Technical knowledge

You’ll ideally have knowledge of relevant highways and traffic legislation, standards and guidance, including:

• DMR
• Highways Acts
• Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (RTRA)
• Road Traffic Acts
• TSRGD 2016
• Traffic Signs Manual
• Relevant British Standards
• Traffic Management Act 2004 (TMA)
