Post-holiday blues? How to cope with your return to work…

By Shaun Kirk

We’ve all been there, whether it was a quiet week in Wales or a three-week, non-stop party in Mexico, sometimes getting back to “reality” can be a real struggle. So, for when you return to work, here are some ways to help you cope with the post-holiday blues. Do with it what you will…

Show off your tan, and bask in the complements from your desk-bound co-workers.

Listen to your holiday song, that one tune that throws you back to a lazy afternoon of lounging by the pool side sipping on a pina colada

Set yourself work targets to complete over the next couple of months & when you have achieved them book another holiday! Why not?! This will help improve productivity and keep you motivated.

Show your colleagues your holiday photos and make them jealous, it’s a cheap shot but it will make you feel much better and that’s all we’re looking for right now!

Plan some summer activities for after work, why not get together and have a BBQ or just go out for some drinks? Ease your way back into the 9-5.

Have a little cry in the toilets.

Refresh & revitalise your eating habits, you may want to fall back into your old ways of over indulging at the Morrison’s hot counter or enjoying a cheeky Nandos without thinking about the consequences. Use your post holiday energy and put it into eating better, making little changes will do you the world of good!

Spend some quality time with your favourite colleague, you’ve probably missed them a little and they’ve definitely missed you since you abandoned them and left them to fend for themselves. Hug it out & spend some special time together.

Don’t cope! Quietly stand up, tuck your chair under your desk, collect your personal belongings (essentials only, forget about the desk plant and your humorous mouse mat) , calmly make your way to the nearest exit, get in your car, drive to the airport. Pick a flight and don’t look back.
